For the first time in several years the patch was represented Oct. 8 at the McGrath Great Pacific Pumpkin Festival in Ventura. Shirley Gormans and Karen Hibdon were welcomed with open arms at the Olivas Park Drive festival, with Mary McGrath and others helping unload and load vehicles, put up and take down the booth. Lots of folks stopped by to buy items and to talk about gourds and all the possibilities. It was nice have a wide assortment of McGrath green and dried gourds nearby as it gave Karen and Shirley an in to talk about cleaning and working with gourds.
Pictured are Karen and Shirley with the Channel Islands Gourd Society sign provided by Cathy Agnew. Unfortunately, the "I" in Islands fell off on the way to the booth. It was, however, found after the photo was taken and went back on the sign. Others photos are of Shirley with a very "witchy" individual, Shirley's Native American gourd and Karen's dragon on a crackle background.
The two plan to go back to McGrath next year and invite others to venture to Ventura - it's a family-friendly festival with lots of really nice, interested folks!!! |
